Foxy lady seeds? DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

@here does anyone have Foxy Lady seed they would like to sell? Wanting to put them out but not if they’re not a true hybrid. Hybrids seem to have a higher rate of growth for some reason. The seed looks pretty elongated, so I would think it would have a lot of Vetchia characteristics. Maybe something I might try to track as time goes on.

  • Boron deficiency has been identified as the cause of palm leaning syndrome.
  • There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation.
  • I’ve got several foxtails (probably too many, but it was the first “exotic” tree that I really liked), some common King palms, and some Kentias.
  • It’s in a 15 gal but it ideally should go in the ground soon, it’s filled in that pot already.
  • If you do the 24hr soak thing, put a weak solution of seaweed extract in the water too.
  • Seed from a foxtail palm will only look like foxtail seeds even if something else is going in the seed.
  • I used a 4 foot bamboo stick I bought at Home Depot and tied it to the broken leaf.

Palm Tree Jim

I have a Butia x Jubaea F2 that looks exactly like a Butia and growth speed is very similar to Butia. From what I understand about F2 hybrids, this result is not surprising. Kind of like a cross between foxtail fiber and the very smooth Vechis fiber.
The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun. FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos. What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ? There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you

Foxy lady palm searching.

There is full green and mostly green. Exactly I believe even the green form has some at some point I foxy gold saw a mature green form produce some variation. Did not notice the variegation earlier but as Jim pointed out, on the lower leaf there it is. Yeah I could tell it is 100% green as well.

Are Foxy Lady palms sterile?

  • The seed looks pretty elongated, so I would think it would have a lot of Vetchia characteristics.
  • For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form.
  • I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots.
  • I have been growing F2 Foxy Ladies for the last 3 years.
  • You can see how the trunk is starting to sort of concave a little on the side with the brown spotting.
  • From the pic seems like your palm flew across the country unharmed.
  • Actually, light variegation is not a bad thing.

Difficult losing palms, but the more palms you grow, over time, we lose some; that’s how it goes. I believe most of the time the seeds never germinate but very occasionally they do. I have some flowering/fruiting foxtails near an adonidia doing the same.
If this one produces seed, you should be able to tell if they have a chance.. While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i’d collect were empty or basically liquid when opened. The only mature ( and flowering /seeding ) specimens i’m currently familiar with are those in Kopsick’s collection. You did not get a palm that was basically bare root and a palm you specifically said you did not want!!! You got an amazing holy grail palm at a discount price.

I am good with the outcome either way, but if you really want to rid yourself of that ‘ugly’ plant,I am ready to adopt. I would LOVE to own that ‘ugly’ palm. I have 3-7g (one slight variegation) I have 3-3g (one slight variegation) I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho!
I don’t know the different rates of growth for them in Florida. Will the seed look like the one you show above, or is that just the f2? I didn’t notice it until after the seedling got bigger…

Myolensis triple and the (now infamous) foxy lady… Last year I added three Beccariophoenix alfredii, which I’m really liking so far due to their hardiness, and some Areca palms. I caught the “Palm tree bug” a few years ago when my wife and I wanted to add some planters to our yard, and I’ve been turned into a palm-tree nerd, as i call myself, ever since.
Look how elongated this viable F2 seed is, that I picked up yesterday. Maybe a few other palmtalkers that I sold F2 to can pipe in. The F2 I am growing so far is hard to tell if they will have the vigor yet, but so far, so good. The over variegated ones seem to languish and slowly die or just grow very slow, probably due to lack of chlorophyll. Are they the same as an F1 growth rate?

Been in pots in the greenhouse for a couple years, very hard to tell. Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time. Wow that looks like a lot of growth for 6 months since planting. I wonder if the very elongated seed has more Veitchia traits and the more rounded F2 seed has the foxtail traits? Typically I find the F1 does have the hybrid vigor, except when they are very variegated. Only the variegated FL produced viable seed so far, but none of the seedlings are variegated.
